图书馆 Reading for Pleasure

阅读书单

‘Reading for pleasure was found to be more important for children’s cognitive development between ages 10 and 16 than their parents' level of education. The combined effect on children's progress of reading 书 often, going to the library regularly and reading newspapers at 16 was four times greater than the advantage children gained from having a parent with a degree.’

(Centre for Longitudinal Studies, 2013)

Colyton Grammar School is committed to developing a love of reading for pleasure in its students. To help students find 书 that will excite and inspire, the school has put together two core reading lists:

The Blockbuster Reading Challenge

Aimed at Years 7 and 8, and drawing inspiration from the famous quiz show, the challenge is made up of four separate lists: Bronze, 银, Gold and Platinum. To complete each challenge and earn a certificate, students need to ‘cross the board’ by reading five 书 from the list. Prizes are on offer for students who complete all four challenges, or read all twenty-five book on a single list.

 50 Unforgettable Reads

50 Unforgettable Reads is aimed at Years 9 to 13. The list is contains the 书 most frequently recommended by both staff and students as the most inspiring and enjoyable 书 they had read. The titles, fiction and non-fiction, span a huge range of subjects and genres. Each term a book from the list will be chosen as ‘Book of the Term’.
